Should Employers Allow Their Employees to Work From Home?

Many employers now allow employees to work from home because of advances in technology.

High-speed Internet has made possible the almost instantaneous transfer of data from one place to another, so being confined to a single office is not necessary for workers anymore. Colleagues located far away can e-mail each other important documents and talk to each other at a very low cost via Skype.

Hence, many companies are now considering the possibility of making most employees work from home and leaving just a small staff in the head office. Doing so has several advantages for the employer.

First, it will allow managers to effectively assess the work of their employees.

In a traditional office setup, workers are compensated for the number of hours they spend in the office, no matter what the actual output is. It does not take into consideration whether the workers are really productive or just appearing to be. The assessment process for employees working from home tends to be more objective. Instead of counting the number of hours staff members work, supervisors look at the actual work done. Hence, the productive employees get to be rewarded more for their efforts.

Second, making employees work from home will save money for the employer.

There will be fewer expenses for office maintenance. These include the cost of electricity, cleaning, and office rent. For example, if an office has 50 employees and most of them are allowed to work from home, as much as 75 percent in utility bills can be slashed. The remaining skeletal force can transfer to a smaller office space that costs much less and consumes smaller amounts of electricity.

Third, workers will become more productive. How many hours do workers spend commuting? If the stress incurred on the drive to and from work is eliminated, employees will be in a much better mood to work. If they don’t have to travel, they will have more time to sleep and rest, making them ready to work in the morning. All these will have a positive impact on the company’s bottom line.

Fourth, companies will have a bigger talent pool to choose from. Many people cannot go to a traditional office because they are disabled, need to cook food for the kids before and after school (but have nothing to do when the children are out), or simply live far away from the city. A lot of individuals in these situations are talented people who could be assets to a company.

Of course, not all offices can make employees work from home. It depends upon what business a company is engaged in. A drugstore owner cannot allow his employees to work from home. But for those who can, the benefits are enormous.

Why Having an Office Assistant is Ideal?

Think of how cool it is to have an assistant able to do any data entry task or take your calls for you in your own dedicated business name.

If that is something you would like to accomplish, then may I suggest hiring a virtual office assistant who can answer your emails, transcribe voicemails, and more? The same reason you would hire someone remotely to do your duties for you, is why you should consider a virtual office solution for your business, complete with email, your own telephone number at two places if you desire, a receptionist so you don’t have to deal with call centers, and you can update your instructions for them whenever you want. Also if you need voicemail delivery via email or SMS, that’s possible with a 24 hour a day voice mail service that keeps track of people trying to reach you.

Whether you are a high profile CEO or a small business owner, this all makes sense and is worth the minimal amount of money to get started. There is also shared office space rental which is easier to get going if you are going into business with a partner, because you will be splitting the costs of the space, and you could possibly get more things done than if you were doing it by yourself. Remember that two heads are better than one when it comes to figuring out office solutions, so along with having a receptionist, consider having a partner in your business who can handle all duties to allocate to staff.

Everybody deserves a vacation if they in fact work hard to deserve it, and you are no different. Imagine being able to travel without your phone or computer, knowing that when you get home all calls will have been answered in your company name and handled appropriately without any mistakes. In this day and age, that’s extremely possible and can be done if you decide to invest in either an online virtual office or a physical one.

The money you invest will pay off if you invest it in something that saves you time, and if there’s one thing that can save you money, it’s an Serviced offices space where you can come to anytime to do anything you like to do that’s office related. Your meeting space where you congregate with your colleagues is vital to closing a deal, especially if making a first impression on visitors from another country. You also must remember that no matter where you are, there is most likely an office that can accommodate anything you think of, so get creative and watch you business grow to heights you once dreamed of. Just don’t sleep in
